And here it already starts to get bitter for me. I don’t wish Tom Herman any ill, but neither do I wish him good. I don’t wish him anything. But if you also think UH deserved and deserves better than what they got (and I know stuff that didn’t get reported on), you have no further to look than just down Cullen Blvd at Holman, where Kelvin Sampson - the platonic opposite of Tom Herman, and decent and authentically loving in all the ways Herman always insisted he (Herman) was - coaches from the state of the art Guy V Lewis Development Center. He may not retire a Cougar (he may! I hope he does! And I hope they pay him enough that it raisee eyebrows and gets tongues wagging, frankly), but in my experience, if there is a right and honorable way to do things, that’s how Coach Sampson does them. I count him as a friend, and I’m proud to do so. On the rare occasions when I would hear from my folks, they’d always tell me he asked after me and regretted I wasn’t able to cover my Coogs anymore (which was true when Chron bought HCN, bc suddenly Joseph Duarte and I were working for the exact same company using the exact same CMS. Actually, does he use it? He seems like he might file by email. I love him, and that could be totally wrong, but he gives files-by-email, and again - I have nothing but affection for Duarte, and where I covered UH off and on, he was there in the trenches EVERY DAY, and had been for years (and therefore it never felt like a realistic career path for me, ultimately making it all that much easier to tell the Hearst jr-exec suits to fuck themselves without hesitation when they said yes, they in fact were calling me a liar, and there was a spirited discussion in between that point and the point where I actually stormed out, definitely definitely definitely not working there anymore lol), and so he was doing what I hoped to be able to do a little, a lot. So much gratitude to and for him, as a student and alum/fan, and fellow evangelist for the University of Houston.

Anyway, wiser, better Cougars than I have told me it’s beneath us and classless to say, “fuck Tom Herman,” and instead to say, “We don’t need him.” So - to be clear - that second one is what I’m saying.

Not Fuck Tom Herman. Fuck Tom Herman was the first that, and that’s the one I’m not saying.

We don’t need him.

Anyway, how telling is it that the first thing he says is me, my, mine. Compare it to every. other. quote.

You be the judge.
